PREVENT - Prevent and fight High Risk Criminal Networks (HRCNs) in Europe.
PREVENT is a 24-month multinational project aimed at combating high-risk criminal networks (HRCNs) in Europe. It brings together 9 partners and 9 associate partners from 6 EU Member States. The project’s key objectives include: enhancing intelligence on the infiltration of HRCNs into the legal economy; promoting administrative measures and the social reuse of confiscated assets; and strengthening social enterprises through multilevel partnerships. A research component will be conducted across 8 EU countries, accompanied by the organisation of workshops and the development of cooperation tools. PREVENT supports and aligns with EU initiatives under the Roadmap to Combat Drug Trafficking and Organised Crime, as well as the European Pillar of Social Rights and its 2021 Action Plan.
RESTART - A new initiative to protect the EU core values and strengthen democratic participation through the public and social reuse of assets.
Involving Libera and four European partners from the CHANCE network, BASTA, Eine Welt, Repubblika, and ACDD, RESTART aims to promote the active engagement of EU citizens in initiatives of solidarity and democratic participation to counter the growing impact of organised crime. The proposal focuses on regaining control over local territories through the social reuse of confiscated assets, particularly those that are unused or abandoned, thus enhancing democratic participation and increasing young citizens’ awareness of their active role in protecting fundamental rights and promoting social justice through continuous and democratic dialogue. The initiative includes awareness-raising events, a mapping of confiscated assets, and the organisation of National Training Camps for Participatory Engagement across all participating countries.
BR! Bien Restituido - Para el desmantelamiento patrimonial del crimen organizado y el fortalecimiento de la sociedad civil (To dismantle the financial assets of organised crime and strengthen civil society).
Together with Argentine civil society, and with the support of the European Union in Argentina, Libera aims to help create new legislation that facilitates the recovery of confiscated assets and their use to strengthen social and community-based organisations that support the most vulnerable groups. This process could make Argentina the first country in Latin America to adopt a legislation similar to the Italian model. Through the project pathway of Bien Restituido, Libera and its partner associations are working to build broad consensus around a public policy of this kind. The proceeds of organised crime will thus become common goods, placed at the service of the communities most affected by this issue.
TWIST - ToWards a new socIal entrepreneurShip model in confiscaTed assets.
Together with Partners Albania for Change and Development and the Municipality of Tirana, the TWIST project aims to develop a shared plan to foster social enterprises, raise public awareness, and contribute to the fight against organised crime by building a more inclusive economy, supporting civil society organisations in increasing their participation in decisions regarding confiscated assets, and in creating social enterprises that reuse those assets in ways that benefit the community. Funded by the European Union, the project will run for three years and engage Albanian citizens, especially those most vulnerable or at risk of involvement in criminal activities. The goal is to transform confiscated assets into resources that can generate new job opportunities and support for victims of crime, as well as for minors, the elderly, and former detainees.
YOUTH4YOU – Empowering Young People to Shape Europe’s Civic Future.
YOUTH4YOU is a project promoted by the CHANCE network and co-funded by the European Union to strengthen the role of young people in building a fairer, more inclusive, and democratic society. The project lasts 12 months and involves 11 partners from different European countries. Through civic education, digital tools, public events, and international exchanges, YOUTH4YOU encourages young people to actively participate in European democratic life. The activities promote cooperation among civil society organisations, educators, and young people, creating a European network for dialogue, collaboration, and shared commitment. The goal is to promote active citizenship, inclusion, and participation by transforming local experiences into a shared European impact.
ALONS'Y - Music, Art, and Craftsmanship for the Rehabilitation of Inmates at Ngoma Prison.
The ALONS'Y project, carried out in coordination with BLOOM Onlus, aims to establish a recording studio and a craft and visual arts workshop inside the central prison of Douala-Ngoma –Cameroon’s newest and largest correctional facility, located in a remote area outside the city of Douala. Operational since 2023, the prison is expected to house up to 4,000 inmates. The project enables incarcerated individuals to discover and develop their talents, using them to build a better future, become role models of personal redemption, and produce awareness messages about the risks of a life outside the law. Activities will be managed locally by Jail Time Records. Allons-y represents a step toward a more inclusive and supportive society.
STAKEHOLDERS - Citizens at the Heart of European Democracy.
STAKEHOLDERS is a European project that promotes citizens’ active participation in protecting the rule of law and democratic values in Europe. The project makes European monitoring processes more accessible and participatory, involving civil society organisations, young people, and underrepresented communities. Through training activities, civic events, and awareness campaigns in seven European countries, participants gain practical tools to contribute to European decision-making and strengthen a more inclusive, participatory, and resilient democracy.
RESPOND - Rescuing Democracy from Political Corruption in Digital Societies.
The RESPOND project, coordinated by the University of Bologna, involves 16 other European partners and aims to study political corruption and undue influence in digital societies, while also proposing solutions to counter them. Funded under the Horizon Europe RIA programme, the project focuses on a variety of phenomena, including political financing, lobbying, sliding doors, conflicts of interest, and political pressure on media.
Sos4democracy - Social Sciences 4 Democracy.
Funded by the European Union, SOS4DEMOCRACY aims to enhance research on authoritarian systems in order to strengthen and promote democracies that have been weakened by illiberal trends. It brings together researchers, civil society actors, and journalists to exchange knowledge and engage in joint training and capacity-building.
OPWHI - Open the whistle: To protect whistleblowers
OPWHI aims to protect those who report wrongdoing (whistleblowers) through transparency, collaboration, and open governance strategies. It involves civil society organisations, universities, and public authorities in Spain, Italy, and Bulgaria. The goal is to create a safe environment for reporting wrongdoing and to promote a culture of protected whistleblowing based on three key pillars: practical tools, training, and transparency.
MoMoEu - More Monitoring Action in the EU.
The portal, a digital and interactive version of the You Monitor project developed by Libera in collaboration with 7 other European partners of MoMoEU, offers educational materials and digital tools specifically designed for young people aged 15 to 25 from diverse national and social backgrounds. It provides educators, youth workers, and teachers with access to 35 educational activities and two educational escape games, aimed at engaging youth on the themes of transparency and corruption prevention, through in-person, fully digital, or hybrid formats.
Giramondi - A trip dedicated to remembrance and commitment
Every year, Libera organises a trip to a different country in Latin America or Africa offering experiences of exchange and learning. The purpose is to gain an insider’s understanding of the social realities in the territories and communities we visit through the perspective of the citizens of that country who, every day dedicate themselves with courage and determination to promote human rights, justice, victim support, and the fight against mafia violence and corruption. This program consists of field visits, voluntary work, and meetings with community representatives, human rights defenders, and relatives of victims, as well as formal engagements. It offers a new perspective on the world by sharing best practices and taking part in numerous community initiatives that are usually hidden from the tourist’s view.
